Ultrasound Technologist II
About the Role
Under limited supervision and the direction of the Radiologist, the Ultrasound Technologist completes sonography procedures including routine sonograms as well as interventional sonograms such as biopsies.
Responsibilities
- Perform sonography procedures, including routine and interventional sonograms (e.g., biopsies).
- Participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Improvement activities.
- Work within the guidelines established in the policies and procedure manual, complying with all safety and infection control guidelines.
- Adhere to JCAHO, State, or other regulatory/accreditation agency requirements.
- Accurately complete sonography examinations as ordered by referring physicians.
- Use radiology information systems to obtain previous examination reports.
- Operate sonographic equipment safely and perform invasive procedures following orientation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel.
- Maintain composure and perform duties in stressful situations, regardless of the patient’s condition.
- Routine use of office equipment (phone, fax, pagers).
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology and/or School of Sonography (two-year or four-year BA program in Radiology Technology followed by sonography training, or completion of an accredited school in sonography including clinical requirements).
- Current registration/licensure/certification in good standing with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Must be registered in vascular and a minimum of two of the following areas: OB/Gyn, Abdomen, or Breast.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Minimum of one-year hospital department experience in medical sonography, including biopsies.
- As the department becomes ACR accredited, may be required to obtain specific certifications such as breast sonography.
