Under the general direction of the Radiologist and supervision of the Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the head and body at a technical level to produce interpretable images for the supervising Radiologist.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and scan with the Ultrasound unit.
  • Maintain adequate records and complete patient logs detailing date, time, type of examination, and time and date authenticated report was sent to referring physician(s) and inpatient unit(s).
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the diagnostic imaging section and the hospital.
  • Scan patients safely with knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Demonstrate a professional, polite, concerned, caring, compassionate, and competent demeanor when providing patient care and interacting with co-workers and physicians.
  • Demonstrate competence in the care of pediatric or frail elderly patients (when assigned) relative to determining each patient's age-related and other physical, psycho-social, and cultural needs, and carrying out patient care activities.
  • Practice institutionally mandated education and patient safety rules, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Operate, troubleshoot, correct malfunctions, maintain, and perform minor repairs on all assigned equipment.
  • Understand the function of the Hospital MIS System and Diagnostic Imaging Management System.
  • Assist the physician as directed.
  • Administer first aid as required and assist in other emergencies.
  • Maintain adequate records and logs.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness.
  • Maintain a professional and ethical relationship.
  • Rotate within the department by shift if required.
  • Adhere to Ultrasound Imaging procedures and protocols.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director, Diagnostic Imaging.
  • Obtain supplies as needed.

Requirements

  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Current California Radiologic Technologist (CRT) License preferred.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) certification required.
  • Proof of all required licenses and certifications due at time of hire.
  • Completion of a formal 24-month Radiologic Technology training program or Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology.
  • Completion of Ultrasound Technology courses.
  • Meets the requirements for certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • Minimum two years of on-the-job training and experience in ultrasound preferred.

  • Supervisory capabilities as determined by Manager, Diagnostic Imaging.
  • Strong interpersonal, organization, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, reaching above shoulders, twisting, and turning.
  • Position and push patients in/on beds.
  • Push portable equipment.
  • Required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Hazards

  • Exposure to radiation.
  • Works with electrical equipment.
  • Close contact with patients, likely exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Fit testing for particulate respirator required.

Pay

Approximate pay range: $74.75 - $94.69 per hour.
