Core Job Functions

  • Travel to all facilities with Ultrasound services as necessary.
  • (Medical Campus, Deerfield, Plantation, Doral, Sole Mia and Lennar).
  • Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
  • Supervise as well as perform diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.
  • Aid in the education and training of new physicians.
  • Aid radiologists and PhDs in developing new protocols and Ultrasound imaging techniques that are unique to facility.
  • Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
  • Act in a team leader capacity on a routine basis.
  • Monitor charging of Ultrasound procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
  • Provide in-service classes in section.
  • Obtain and examine the order for an Ultrasound scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested, patient’s condition and any other special notes or comments.
  • Notify supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contact physician’s office for correct orders if necessary.
  • Identify patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Verify the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband. Always obtain necessary consents and education.
  • Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of Ultrasound scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age appropriate standards of practice.
  • Ability to integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary.
  • Adhere to Ultrasound protocols to maintain high quality ultrasound standards.
  • Consistently demonstrate complete competence in performing Ultrasound scans as ordered.
  • Maintain proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).
  • Assist radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
  • Assist radiologist with interventional Ultrasound procedures.
  • Evaluate Ultrasound scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label.
  • Film/transmit to PACS.
  • Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.
  • Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Provide assistance with orientation and training to new Ultrasound technologists.
  • Gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; provide explanations of treatment; answer questions.
  • Provide education and training to student technologists.
  • Apply physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist: Children, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatric, Challenged/Disabled.
  • Perform basic nursing functions in the patient’s care i.e., assists with bedpans, emesis basins, etc.
  • Assume care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiate life support measures for patients if necessary; assist in “Code Blue” procedure during medical emergencies.
  • Perform CPR as needed.
  • Keep work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stock exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.
  • Provide on call coverage.
  • Report unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel.
  • Abide by to hospital/department HR policies.
  • Adhere to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.
  • Aid in the day-to-day operations within the department.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography and/or Vascular accredited program.
  • ARDMS registered. ARDMS-Abdominal & Vascular required.
  • CPR and BLS certification required.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
