Technologists must be registered and in good standing with the ARDMS with credentialing in physics, vascular, and abdominal preferred. Maintains certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

Responsibilities

  • Under the indirect supervision of the Radiologist, performs the full range of diagnostic Ultrasound procedures as per the established Radiologist protocols.
  • Assists physicians with invasive US biopsy procedures.
  • Performs and evaluates ultrasound images exams, providing accurate documentation and images of procedure(s) results.
  • Communicates pertinent information to the Radiologist regarding the procedure and findings.
  • Demonstrates competence in utilizing all imaging support equipment to include transducers, multi-format cameras, printers, RIS, and PACS system.
  • Maintains inventory of all required procedure supplies.
  • Maintains exam rooms in an orderly and safe condition.
  • Comprehensively explains the ultrasound process and procedure to the patient and answers any questions to alleviate patient anxiety.
  • Accurately operates all functions of the RIS system to include entering orders and charging of all procedures.
  • Displays superior interpersonal skills with patients and peers.
  • Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown immediately to supervisor.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and describes responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Maintains proper working condition of all equipment; promptly reports any equipment variances or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Maintains competencies in all Ultrasound procedures.
  • Assists in other areas of the Imaging department when not performing Ultrasound procedures.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous hospital environment.
  • Operates and maintains high-level disinfection of all probes via Trophon.

Occupational Exposure

Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards, and may encounter radiation hazards.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to sit, converse, and listen; use hands to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and to reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis and push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
