About the role

This position requires performing highest quality sonographic procedures, including various technical procedures and color Doppler vascular exams. Responsibilities also include abdominal, OB/GYN, and small parts exams, as well as assuming responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

Responsibilities

  • Explains the test to the patient
  • Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination
  • Maintains assigned work area responsible for reporting any equipment not in proper working condition
  • Routine checks cords, carts for safety
  • Maintains JCAHO standards for ultrasound
  • Produces high quality ultrasound scans according to protocols and physicians orders in a timely manner
  • Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to organ to be scanned, the depth of field and other specifications of tests
  • Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced
  • Affords assistance to Radiologists with patient procedures
  • Maintains records as required/prepares charge vouchers as required
  • Sends all completed images to PACS
  • Keeps CME points updated for ARDMS
  • Participates in in-service education in the department
  • Provides direction to and assists in cross training technologists
  • Complies with hospital and department policies
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • One (1) specialty certification through ARDMS: Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN), Pediatric Sonography (PS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), Breast Musculoskeletal (MSK)
  • CPR certification within 30 days of hire

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: One (1) year of sonographer experience
