About the role
This position requires performing highest quality sonographic procedures, including various technical procedures and color Doppler vascular exams. Responsibilities also include abdominal, OB/GYN, and small parts exams, as well as assuming responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.
Responsibilities
- Explains the test to the patient
- Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination
- Maintains assigned work area responsible for reporting any equipment not in proper working condition
- Routine checks cords, carts for safety
- Maintains JCAHO standards for ultrasound
- Produces high quality ultrasound scans according to protocols and physicians orders in a timely manner
- Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to organ to be scanned, the depth of field and other specifications of tests
- Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced
- Affords assistance to Radiologists with patient procedures
- Maintains records as required/prepares charge vouchers as required
- Sends all completed images to PACS
- Keeps CME points updated for ARDMS
- Participates in in-service education in the department
- Provides direction to and assists in cross training technologists
- Complies with hospital and department policies
- Performs related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
- One (1) specialty certification through ARDMS: Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN), Pediatric Sonography (PS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), Breast Musculoskeletal (MSK)
- CPR certification within 30 days of hire
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: One (1) year of sonographer experience
