About the Role

The Ultrasonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician, using ultrasound technology and techniques to assist in diagnosing patient medical problems across all age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ultrasound procedures including abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, neuro, small parts, interventional, and Doppler.
  • Uses sterile technique as required for invasive procedures.
  • Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and transducer selection.
  • Competently operates all ultrasound equipment and support systems, including HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, and offsite Radiologist Services.
  • Utilizes department computer systems and PACS to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
  • Properly cares for and images patients of all ages while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care.
  • Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
  • Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
  • Keeps work area properly supplied.
  • Participates in the training of diagnostic medical sonography students and provides general support for their clinical education; completes required documentation and adheres to the expectations of the Bryan College of Health Sciences General Sonography program.
  • Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification in the practice specialty of abdomen and OBGYN required within three (3) months of hire date.
  • Prior certification in neonatal neurosonography or certification in pediatric sonography within twenty-four (24) months of date of hire required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
