UI/UX Lead
About the role
Pure Imagination Labs’ UI/UX Lead designs and implements immersive UI/UX systems in Unreal Engine, supporting mission logic, feedback clarity, and educational accessibility. Owns the full UI lifecycle—from wireframes to optimized real-time implementation—across screen-based, spatial, and physical interfaces. Develops modular UI components, reusable frameworks, and scalable design patterns. Leads usability testing and ensures alignment with narrative tone, technical performance, and guest comprehension. Serves as a hands-on contributor and functional lead across internal and vendor-delivered projects.
Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and implement immersive UI/UX systems in Unreal Engine 5 using UMG, Blueprints, and modern UE5 interface components.
- Take UI/UX from initial concept through final implementation, including layout, logic, feedback systems, and performance optimization.
- Own the full lifecycle of UI/UX design across physical-digital, simulation, and interactive narrative experiences.
- Define adaptive UI patterns that scale across screen-based interfaces, in-world displays, spatial HUDs, and physical control overlays.
- Collaborate with creative, technical, and production teams to ensure UI design supports mission logic, narrative clarity, and intuitive user flow.
- Architect reusable UI frameworks that account for state changes, branching logic, error handling, scoring, and feedback systems.
- Maintain performance-optimized, modular UI components using deferred rendering-safe materials and data-driven layouts.
- Develop documentation, style guides, and UX standards for consistent implementation across teams and vendors.
- Conduct usability testing across age groups and use cases, incorporating feedback into iterative UI refinement.
- Design with accessibility, educational clarity, and immersive fidelity in mind—including controller mapping, motion-safe layouts, and readable typography.
- Integrate UI assets from internal and external artists while maintaining visual consistency and real-time performance.
- Serve as both hands-on contributor and functional lead, owning UI/UX delivery on small projects and overseeing vendors or team members on larger initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college/technical school required.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of professional experience designing and implementing real-time UI/UX for games, training, simulation, or immersive experiences.
- Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, specifically UMG, Blueprint-based UI logic, Material Layers for UI, and UE5 best practices for widget optimization.
- Demonstrated ability to take UI/UX from early concept to final implementation.
- Proficiency in wireframing and UX tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or similar.
- Experience designing interfaces for non-traditional hardware setups, including large displays, motion platforms, or custom physical interfaces.
- Strong visual sensibility with an understanding of motion-safe UI, scaling, and contrast/accessibility standards.
Additional Qualifications
- Familiarity with VR/AR UI design, including spatial input and comfort-safe interfaces.
- Experience working in themed entertainment, simulation environments, or LBE.
- Experience using design tools such as After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar for visual and motion UI asset development.
- Proven ability to manage vendors or mentor junior contributors in a fast-paced production environment.
- Experience with databinding, State Tree, or runtime behavior systems in UE5.
- Flexibility to travel for live staging and working on-site for integration testing, commissioning, and post-launch support.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams, external vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Able to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
