UI/UX Engineer
About the role
The Leidos Intelligence Group has an opening for a UI/UX Engineer in Reston, Virginia. The successful candidate will work as a member of a government contractor team managing to design intuitive, user-centric interfaces and AI-driven applications for both unclassified and classified federal environments. You will bridge design and front-end development, translating complex mission data into accessible, secure UI solutions while adhering to government regulatory and security protocols.
Primary Responsibility
- Create, prototype, and code seamless user interfaces for mission-critical government systems that leverage AI/ML technologies.
- Work seamlessly across unclassified and classified (TS/SCI) systems.
- Ensure high-security software remains intuitive, efficient, and accessible for federal stakeholders and analysts.
- UI/UX Design & Implementation: Design and develop intuitive, responsive user interfaces for web-based applications.
- User Experience Optimization: Translate complex workflows into simple, efficient user experiences that improve usability and adoption.
- Front-End Development: Build and maintain front-end components using modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or similar).
- Usability & Accessibility: Ensure applications meet usability standards and accessibility best practices.
- Design Systems: Contribute to and maintain consistent design patterns, components, and style guides.
- User Research & Feedback: Gather and incorporate user feedback to continuously improve interface design and functionality.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with backend engineers, product teams, and stakeholders to align UI/UX with system capabilities.
- Performance Optimization: Improve front-end performance, responsiveness, and scalability.
- Create interfaces that streamline complex data visualization and integrate seamlessly with AI-driven capabilities.
- Collaborate heavily with back-end, data science, and AI/ML teams to ensure technical feasibility and smooth integration.
- Work fluidly across multiple security domains (NIPRNet, SIPRNet, and JWICS or equivalent classified networks).
Qualifications
- TS/SCI with Polygraph
- US Citizen
- Typically requires BS degree and 12 – 15 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 10 – 13 years of prior relevant experience. May possess a Doctorate in technical domain.
- Ability to conduct user research, stakeholder interviews, and usability testing to deeply understand the needs of defense and intelligence personnel.
- Ability to translate user needs to create functionally designed interfaces that streamline complex data visualization and integrate seamlessly with AI-driven capabilities.
- Strong experience with front-end technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS)
- Experience with modern UI frameworks (React, Angular, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience designing user-centered interfaces for complex applications
- Understanding of UX principles, usability, and interaction design
- Experience designing and developing intuitive user interfaces for data-driven GEOINT applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD)
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Grafana or similar)
- Familiarity with REST APIs and backend integration
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and front-end deployment workflows
- Experience working in Agile environments
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range $131,300.00 - $237,350.00
