Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end Human-Centered Design (HCD) process, including user research, persona development, journey mapping, and service blueprint creation to address user pain points.
  • Design low-fidelity wireframes and high-fidelity interactive prototypes using tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD to visualize complex workflows and system interactions.
  • Plan and facilitate usability testing sessions with federal stakeholders and end-users, gathering qualitative and quantitative feedback for iterative improvements.
  • Collaborate with Full Stack Developers to ensure designs are technically feasible and translated into responsive, high-performance web applications, primarily using React.js.
  • Ensure all user interfaces adhere to federal Section 508 accessibility compliance standards, W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and agency-specific design systems.
  • Create, maintain, and advocate for comprehensive design systems, style guides, and component libraries to ensure visual consistency across deliverables.
  • Actively participate in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment, contributing to sprint planning, backlog grooming, and delivering design artifacts aligned with the Agile Release Train (ART).

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in UI/UX design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating complex enterprise software or web application design.
  • High proficiency in modern UI/UX design and prototyping tools, specifically Figma, as well as the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Solid understanding of frontend web technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript) and how design decisions impact frontend frameworks like React.js.
  • Proven expertise in applying Human-Centered Design principles, conducting user research, and synthesizing feedback into actionable design solutions.
  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.

Desired Skills

  • Proven track record of architecting mission-critical digital solutions for federal agencies (e.g., DoD, IC, CMS), including implementation of the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) and federal design mandates.
  • Subject-matter expertise in federal accessibility, driving Section 508 compliance audits and remediations for enterprise-level web applications.
  • Advanced capability in data visualization, translating complex datasets, AI/ML outputs, and predictive analytics into intuitive, interactive dashboards.
  • Premier industry certifications in Human-Centered Design and enterprise-scale agility (e.g., Nielsen Norman Group UX Certification, SAFe Agile Certification).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in data science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
