UI/UX Designer
Black Cape is a unique technology company focused on full-stack web applications, advanced data analysis tools, and integrating AI/ML capabilities for federal government customers. We support programs across the Department of War (DoW) and Intelligence Community (IC) as both a prime and subcontractor, building mission-critical applications on aggressive schedules. Our engineer-led teams apply proven Agile and DevOps practices, frequently interacting with end users to deploy solutions in secure cloud environments.
About the role
We are seeking a talented and security-cleared UI/UX Designer to join our mission-focused team. The systems you build will directly support national security, tactical operations, and critical decision-making for government customers. In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex government data and intuitive, human-centered software, collaborating onsite with developers, product owners, and end-users to drive the visual direction of our applications.
Responsibilities
- Wireframing & Low-Fidelity Mockups: Distill complex, secure workflows into clean, structural layouts that allow for rapid iteration and stakeholder alignment.
- High-Fidelity Mockups: Craft detailed, interactive mockups that clarify highly technical government data and serve as a clear blueprint for developers.
- Collaborative Design: Transform feedback from analysts and operators into elegant, secure, and highly functional interfaces.
Requirements
- Active TS/SCI clearance and willingness to obtain a CI Poly.
- US Citizenship (required for security clearance).
- Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of professional experience.
- Experience working onsite with DoD and/or IC customers.
- Strong ability to design wireframes, mockups, and prototypes for web applications.
- Strong ability to drive overall visual design, layout, and composition of web applications.
- Experience working with end-users to identify needs, articulate challenges, and propose user-centric solutions.
- Familiarity collaborating with full-stack development teams in Agile workflows.
- Portfolio or experience demonstrating skills in wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity visual design.
- Experience with at least one of the following design tools: Figma (preferred), Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience meeting directly with application stakeholders.
- Experience developing User Personas, User Studies, and Information Architecture.
- Proficiency with JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
- Familiarity with modern frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
- Familiarity with accessibility requirements and best practices.
- Prior work in environments with strict accreditation and security requirements.
