About the role
Auria is looking to hire a UI/UX Designer to support our MELCO program. This role can be remote or hybrid in Bethesda, MD. Preferred candidate is identified.
Responsibilities
- Translate subsystem concepts into UI architectures, sketches, storyboards, wireframes, and mockups that lead to intuitive operator interfaces
- Lead design of a major user interface, including evaluating opportunities to extend or integrate existing proven interface patterns
- Facilitate internal stakeholders' product vision through research, wireframing, prototyping, and mockups
- Design and deliver wireframes, storyboards, prototypes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups for program reviews and demos
- Identify design problems in complex, real-time ground system software and devise elegant, operator-friendly solutions
- Make strategic design and UX decisions related to product functions and features
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the Program Manager, systems engineers, and software engineers throughout the program's design review cycle
- Perform usability and heuristic evaluations across the product lifecycle
Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, a related design field, or Computer Science, with 2+ years of related experience (additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
- Demonstrated ability to both design and personally build production UI — not design-only: hands-on experience shipping interfaces in React, TypeScript, and Next.js
- In-depth knowledge of web development fundamentals including HTML and CSS
- Experience building and maintaining design systems and reusable component libraries
- Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and how to design/build to them
- Experience employing an iterative, user-centered design process in UX design and interactive prototyping (e.g., Figma)
- A portfolio of work illustrating both design craft and shipped product work
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, a related design field, or Computer Science, with 2+ years of related experience (additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
- Experience designing interfaces for simulation, training, or scenario-based operator tools
- Familiarity with AI-assisted or data-driven interface features (e.g., RAG-based assistance, semantic search, tool-calling agents) as applied to operator workflows
- Experience with Swift/SwiftUI or Three.js for richer visualization or cross-platform prototyping
- Knowledge of satellite communications concepts, including communications theory, link budgets, wireless communications, and satellite system components
Pay
$120,000 - $160,000
