UH60 Aircraft Mechanic

About the role

The UH60 Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoots malfunctions in various aircraft systems, including but not limited to:

• Aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls
• Pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems

Responsibilities

Performs 100-hour, progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections.

• Examines reciprocating engines for cracked cylinders and oil leaks
• Listens to operating engines to detect and diagnose malfunctions
• Inspects jet engines and components for cracks, corrosion, foreign object damage, burned areas, distortions, security, warping, wear, and missing segments
• Tests engine operation using testing equipment such as ignition analyzer, compression checker, distributor timer, ammeter, and Jetcal tester
• Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes
• Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories
• Performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections
• Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes
• Supervises the jacking and towing of aircraft
• Enters descriptions of work performed in maintenance records and verifies satisfactory completion
• May specialize in work, repair, and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies
• May specialize in engine repair

Requirements

• Valid up-to-date A&P license
• If no A&P license, three (3) years aviation maintenance experience, two (2) years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two (2) years on the assigned MDS (UH60)
• All experience must be within the last six (6) years
• Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization

Qualifications

• Good communication skills
• Adaptable, diversified, and capable of troubleshooting entire aircraft system
• Working knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, and associated systems principles
• Knowledge of Quality Control, Production, and Supply procedures
• Ability to properly use a variety of common hand tools and measuring devices
• Ability to determine when faulty systems or assemblies can be corrected through repair or replacement of new parts
• Ability to read, apply, and interpret technical data

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

• Must be able to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crouch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
• Frequently lift parts and equipment up to 20 pounds
• Occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds
• Most heavy lifting is accomplished through the use of mechanical devices
• May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside
• May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure
• May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft
• May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles
• May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts

Compensation Details

$37.83 per hour
