UGM Mobile Maintenance Mechanic Apprentice
The Mobile Equipment Mechanic Apprentice role at Northern Star (Pogo) LLC offers a unique opportunity to combine hands-on work with academic learning. Based at the world-class Pogo operation in Alaska, this position combines site-based work with attendance at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, allowing employees to be full-time Pogo Mine staff while pursuing a degree.
About the role
You will play a pivotal role in upholding Northern Star's STARR Core Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results. This position involves acquiring knowledge and skills in repairing and maintaining mobile heavy equipment, using both hand and power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with diagnostics, breakdowns, follow-up work, PMs in a safe and timely manner.
- Learn the workmanship by meeting standards, tolerances and testing of equipment prior to handover.
- Absorb knowledge of correct parts and equipment for all planned and unplanned jobs, as necessary.
- Attend daily pre-start meetings to ensure effective communication.
- Aid in documenting and submitting work for review.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas.
- Participate in safety-related activities, including hazard identification, pre-start checks, and incident reporting.
Requirements
This role requires a strong foundation in mechanical and electrical systems, as well as the ability to learn quickly and adapt to different environments. Previous experience with heavy equipment is beneficial but not mandatory. A commitment to safety and a willingness to learn are essential.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a strong educational background, preferably in a relevant field such as engineering or mechanics. A valid driver's license and good physical condition are also required.
Skills

Schedule
