UG Mobile Maintenance Mechanic

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on underground mobile mining equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and drivetrain systems.
  • Maintain and repair equipment such as underground loaders, haul trucks, bolters, jumbos, utility vehicles, service trucks, personnel carriers, and other mobile mining equipment.
  • Troubleshoot diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, axles, braking systems, cooling systems, fuel systems, and hydraulic circuits.
  • Conduct inspections and identify equipment defects, safety concerns, and potential failures before they result in unplanned downtime.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance, component replacements, rebuilds, and major repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications and site maintenance standards.
  • Use diagnostic tools, service manuals, schematics, and technical documentation to identify and resolve equipment problems.
  • Perform equipment testing and commissioning following repairs to verify safe and proper operation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and parts usage information.
  • Communicate equipment condition, outstanding repairs, and maintenance requirements to supervisors and other members of the maintenance team.
  • Work closely with Operations to prioritize equipment repairs and support production requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
  • Follow all mine safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, ground-control procedures, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, training programs, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Respond to underground equipment breakdowns and perform field repairs when required.
  • Aid with equipment rebuilds, component change-outs, and planned shutdown maintenance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance practices, and operating efficiency.
  • Perform other duties related to underground mobile equipment maintenance as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical, vocational, or trade-school education in Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanics, Heavy Equipment Technology, Automotive Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Completion of a recognized Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic apprenticeship or equivalent trade qualification is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy mobile equipment, preferably in an underground mining environment.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing diesel-powered heavy equipment.
  • Experience with underground mining equipment such as loaders, haul trucks, development equipment, bolters, jumbos, utility vehicles, or similar equipment is highly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, drivetrain, braking, and diesel engine systems.
  • Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment and electronic service information systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics, electrical wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment service documentation.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance, component change-outs, inspections, and equipment rebuilds.
  • Previous experience working in a safety-critical industrial or mining environment preferred.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
  • Ability to work underground in confined spaces and challenging environmental conditions.
  • Physically capable of performing the essential duties of the position, including lifting, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working around heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, extended shifts, weekends, holidays, and/or overtime as required by the mine schedule.
  • Valid driver's license or site-equivalent authorization, as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required mine-site certifications and training.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
