Nature of the Assignment

The chief duty of instructors at the Writing Centre is to counsel students individually and in small groups on university writing, especially on organization, reasoning, style, and language use.

Assignment Description

Instructors will see students with writing assignments from a variety of disciplines. Instructors may be asked to deliver group instruction on general writing skills or in the context of specific College program courses. They may also be asked to create or revise writing-related pedagogical material. Some positions may involve delivering instruction for English language learners.

Dates of Appointment

1 September 2026 – 30 April 2027 (Fall/Winter semesters). Variable hours from Monday to Friday between 9am – 6pm.

Hours of Work

76 hours per position – subject to change.

Salary

  • $56.46/hour (Writing Instructor 1)
  • $60.69/hour (Writing Instructor 1 – Long Term)
  • $60.69/hour (Writing Instructor 2)
  • $62.14/hour (Writing Instructor 2 – Long Term)
  • $62.48/hour (Writing Instructor 2 – Priority)
  • $63.69/hour (Writing Instructor 2 – Priority Long Term)

All positions are subject to budgetary approval. Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed graduate degree from a post-secondary institution required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant experience teaching writing one-on-one or teaching in university courses with a writing component preferred.
  • Previous experience in a writing centre and training and experience in second-language instruction at the university level preferred.
  • Experience studying or teaching science considered an asset.

Description of Duties

  • See students with writing assignments from a variety of disciplines.
  • Deliver group instruction on general writing skills or in the context of specific College program courses.
  • Deliver instruction for English language learners (some positions).
  • Create or revise writing-related pedagogical material.
  • Exact duties and schedule worked out in consultation with the director of the Writing Centre.
