About the role

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health invites applications for an interim postdoctoral position in environmental epidemiology and community-based research on industrial pollution with the Community and Environment Research Lab. The position emphasizes investigations leveraging cohorts in Los Angeles and California to understand relationships between energy development, environmental justice, and industrial pollution.

In conjunction with faculty mentors, the Fellow will conduct spatial and epidemiological analysis of health data, analyze biomarkers and measures of cumulative exposure, and support analysis of prospectively collected community health data. This position offers opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaboration and professional development, including publications, presentation at scientific conferences, involvement in proposal writing, and participation in community meetings and events.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct spatial and epidemiological analysis of health data
  • Analyze biomarkers and measures of cumulative exposure
  • Support analysis of prospectively collected community health data
  • Collaborate on multi-disciplinary research projects
  • Publish research findings and present at scientific conferences
  • Participate in proposal writing and community meetings/events

Requirements

  • PhD in environmental health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or related discipline
  • Interest in community-based research and environmental justice
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Experience with data analysis using statistical software (R, Stata, SAS, or similar)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application):

  • Strong data analytical skills and/or community engagement research experience

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Solid background in epidemiology or mixed methods
  • Experience with large datasets

Pay

The salary for this position is in the range of $71,491 - $85,736, determined by experience. Positions are dependent upon extramural funding. Initial appointments are for one year; renewal is dependent on availability of funding.
