About the Role

TSC’s Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (AISR) division in Arlington, VA is seeking a Software Engineer with an educational and/or industry focus in the design, development, integration, and testing of software for uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS). The selected individual will program design components, assist in prototype bring-up and testing, and integrate them into UAS platforms alongside a multi-disciplinary team. This position involves up to 10% travel to development sites and test ranges.

TSC’s AISR team designs, builds, and operates a family of long-endurance UAS sustaining 24/7 operations at multiple sites worldwide. The role requires familiarity with electronics and application readiness to apply design principles across all phases of the UAS product lifecycle, from initial development through operations.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain clean, well-documented, efficient code for embedded systems.
  • Assist in debugging and testing a larger codebase with a multi-developer team.
  • Conduct developmental testing to identify and fix issues.
  • Support detailed software system and development activities for UAS platforms, including upfront analysis, prototyping, end-item development, and evaluation in laboratory and field test environments.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team locally and across physical locations.
  • Work with product owners to build software solutions for corresponding requirements.
  • Create workable software solutions in rapid timelines to support requirements and troubleshoot real-world challenges.

Requirements

  • Associate/Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret DoD security clearance.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, MATLAB, or JavaScript.
  • Experience with embedded systems for autonomous vehicles.
  • Strong software engineering foundation: understanding of core concepts including data structures, algorithm design, analysis, optimization, and testing.
  • Applied mathematics: differential equations, linear algebra, and statistics.
  • Basic software programming of electrical components, retrieval and evaluation of data, and modifying code/settings on devices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in an engineering environment, document, and explain work to others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience writing computer code for applications to control physical devices from initial development to deployment.
  • Significant experience developing software for unmanned and autonomous vehicles, including air vehicles.
  • Experience designing, building, and testing electrical subsystems for airborne platforms.
  • Design and integration of software control programs in electromechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise, attention to detail, and precision engineering standards.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Able to prioritize work and maximize personal and team productivity.
