U.S.-Based Accountant (CPA/CA) – AI Tax Evaluation Project (Remote -USD $65–$70/hour)
Location: Remote – United States
Engagement: Contract
Compensation: USD $65–$70/hour
About the role
URVA Consulting is seeking experienced Accountants, CPAs, Chartered Accountants, and U.S. tax professionals to contribute their tax expertise to an innovative AI training and evaluation project. This opportunity is particularly suited to professionals with strong experience interpreting U.S. state and local tax laws, sales and use tax regulations, statutory provisions, and related tax documentation.
In this role, you will apply your tax expertise to help train and evaluate next-generation AI systems. The core work involves reading U.S. tax statutes, translating complex legal requirements into precise evaluation criteria, and assessing whether AI-generated interpretations accurately reflect the underlying law. No prior AI experience is required.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret sales and use tax statutes and regulations across U.S. state jurisdictions, as well as relevant federal tax provisions when required.
- Break individual statutory subsections into clear and discrete legal requirements.
- Develop detailed evaluation rubrics/checklists defining the requirements that an AI-generated interpretation must satisfy.
- Ensure evaluation criteria are grounded directly in the applicable statutory text rather than influenced by the AI-generated answer being reviewed.
- Assign appropriate severity levels to evaluation requirements based on their genuine statutory importance.
- Review AI-generated interpretations of tax statutes and evaluate them against established criteria.
- Verify that statutory conditions, thresholds, exceptions, defined terms, and logical relationships are accurately captured.
- Identify discrepancies, statutory exceptions, ambiguities, edge cases, and other issues in AI-generated tax interpretations.
- Develop clear, self-contained test scenarios for failed criteria, including relevant facts, dates, amounts, and expected outcomes.
- Provide structured, well-supported written evaluations through a digital review platform.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail throughout the evaluation process.
Requirements
- Active CPA license, Chartered Accountant designation, or relevant experience as a U.S. tax attorney.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. tax law and statutory interpretation.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret tax statutes and regulations—not simply prepare tax returns.
- Strong understanding of statutory conditions, thresholds, exceptions, defined terms, and logical relationships.
- Excellent analytical and critical-reasoning skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, particularly when interpreting statutory exceptions and edge cases.
- Strong written communication skills with an emphasis on precision, clarity, and consistency.
- Ability to develop objective evaluation criteria that another qualified reviewer could independently apply and reach a consistent conclusion.
- Comfortable providing detailed and structured feedback through digital review platforms.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, project-based environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience across multiple U.S. state tax jurisdictions.
- Strong knowledge of state and local sales and use tax.
- Experience with federal tax matters relevant to statutory or scenario-based review.
- Enrolled Agent (EA) designation or other relevant U.S. tax credentials.
- Direct experience reviewing or validating AI-generated, technology-driven, legal, accounting, or tax content.
- Experience training teams or providing detailed written feedback involving legal or tax terminology.
- Familiarity with AI-powered tax solutions or technology-enabled tax workflows.
- Interest in the intersection of artificial intelligence, taxation, regulatory compliance, and legal interpretation.
