U.C.&M Apprentice

About the role

Union: U.C.&M. Apprentice. Number of positions: 1. Location: NY - Lancaster.

Responsibilities

• Under directive supervision performs less complicated construction and maintenance work on dead conductors, structures and equipment.
• Assists 1st Class and 2nd Class U.C.&M Men in the performance of more involved work.
• Expected to acquire pole climbing skills necessary for U.C.&M work.
• Under close supervision works on energized conductors, structures and equipment not exceeding 600 volts.
• May be required to drive truck and operate winch; clean parts, oil, tape, solder, perform minor servicing of electrical equipment; install simple power and lighting circuits; install, remove, connect or disconnect electric meters and services.
• Performs other related or less skilled work as directed.
• Must acquire knowledge and skills necessary for advancement to U.C.&M. Man 2nd Class, determined by appropriate test.

Requirements

• Should have had at least one year's experience as Laborer 1/c in the Maintenance Department, or its equivalent.
• Must have the ability to learn the work of the Maintenance Department as indicated by an appropriate test.
• Must be able to perform semi-routine operations of moderate complexity and variety where standard methods of procedure are available.
• Equivalent to four years of high school; or two years of high school plus two years' apprenticeship or trade school training.
• Must be able to qualify for an automobile operator's license.

Qualifications

• Physical Qualification: Normal health, physique and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination given by a Company physician, including color perception; strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.
• Personal Qualification: Should possess temperament suited to jobs where manual dexterity, precision and patience are particularly essential; must be willing to work extra and/or irregular hours and under unusual or special working conditions as required.

Pay

Hourly rate: $39.41 - $62.68.
