Tutor, Open Doors / Upward Bound
Minimum Qualifications
- Available to work Monday through Thursday evenings from 3pm-7pm during Lawton Public Schools' session and on designated Saturdays from 9am-1pm.
- Demonstrated success in a post-secondary educational institution.
- Academic expertise in Math, Science, English, or other high school core curriculum.
- Experience with and knowledge of high school students.
- Excellent oral communication skills.
- Ability to accurately complete tutoring and timesheet records.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with students, parents, and program staff.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Tutor and assist students in academic subject areas.
- Establish rapport with students assigned as tutees.
- Arrive at all tutoring sessions promptly, prepared and appropriately dressed.
- Report to, and keep Upward Bound and Open Doors Academic Advisors advised of both the perceived and real needs of students.
- Identify student's problem areas and confer with program staff.
- Attend all scheduled meetings, training sessions, and individual meetings with the program staff.
- Abstain from use of alcohol/tobacco products while on duty or around students.
- Leave absences must be approved in advance by program staff.
- Term of employment will be yearly with satisfactory evaluation.
- Prepare time sheets.
- Report any signs or indications of abuse to the program staff.
Prior Experience
- Prior experience with, or participation in, TRiO programs.
- Preference given to those who have succeeded in overcoming a disadvantaged background similar to program participants.
Salary Range
13.50/hr.
