Tutor, Open Doors / Upward Bound

Minimum Qualifications

• Available to work Monday through Thursday evenings from 3pm-7pm during Lawton Public Schools' session and on designated Saturdays from 9am-1pm.
• Demonstrated success in a post-secondary educational institution.
• Academic expertise in Math, Science, English, or other high school core curriculum.
• Experience with and knowledge of high school students.
• Excellent oral communication skills.
• Ability to accurately complete tutoring and timesheet records.
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with students, parents, and program staff.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Tutor and assist students in academic subject areas.
• Establish rapport with students assigned as tutees.
• Arrive at all tutoring sessions promptly, prepared and appropriately dressed.
• Report to, and keep Upward Bound and Open Doors Academic Advisors advised of both the perceived and real needs of students.
• Identify student's problem areas and confer with program staff.
• Attend all scheduled meetings, training sessions, and individual meetings with the program staff.
• Abstain from use of alcohol/tobacco products while on duty or around students.
• Leave absences must be approved in advance by program staff.
• Term of employment will be yearly with satisfactory evaluation.
• Prepare time sheets.
• Report any signs or indications of abuse to the program staff.

Prior Experience

• Prior experience with, or participation in, TRiO programs.
• Preference given to those who have succeeded in overcoming a disadvantaged background similar to program participants.

Salary Range

13.50/hr.
