Job Summary

Under supervision of the Director College Writing and Reading Centers, the tutor conducts one-to-one and small-group conferences with student writers and readers. These conferences are response-oriented, focusing on learning about and through writing.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Coaching/consulting/assisting students with writing assignments
  • Completion of tracking/assessment documentation
  • Initial & in-service (ongoing) training

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, respect for, and understanding of the needs of students seeking learning support
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate well with others
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively
  • Ability to be flexible in a constantly changing, fast-moving educational environment
  • Ability to perform clerical tasks effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Successful completion of English 1010 or equivalent with a B or better
  • Currently enrolled SLCC student

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of English 1810 or equivalent tutor education course
  • Multilingual
