Tutor Non-Certified, Accounting (Part-Time)
About the role
The Division of Financial Services, Accounting, and Marketing at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) is seeking talented students to tutor accounting courses, particularly Accounting 1110/1120 and/or Accounting 2010/2020. Our goal is to provide a productive learning environment that guides students toward achieving their life and professional goals.
Responsibilities
- Communicate subject matter effectively to individual students, and facilitate group activities for students studying the same material.
- Utilize videoconferencing and note-taking applications during tutoring sessions.
- Apply different learning strategies during tutoring sessions, including active learning and peer-to-peer techniques.
- Maintain self-motivation and work independently with limited supervision.
- Listen and answer questions during tutoring sessions.
- Show great time management and organizational skills.
- Set goals and/or expectations during the first few sessions.
- Provide support for content and concept understanding, not direct answers to graded work.
- Be open and available for observations and follow-up conversations.
- Help students learn how to learn the material.
- Help students develop or refine their study skills and become independent learners.
- Show demonstrated sensitivity to, respect for, and understanding of the needs of students seeking learning support.
- Follow written and oral instructions effectively.
- Work flexibly in a constantly changing, fast-moving educational environment.
- Perform clerical tasks effectively.
- Work well with others and in a team environment.
- Communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, maintaining good working relationships across the College.
- Work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities.

- Knowledge of the subject matter to be tutored.

Minimum Qualifications
- A High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- B+ grade or better in ACCT 1110 or ACCT 2010.
- Previous experience tutoring college level students.
