About the role

The Chemistry Tutor works directly with students, either one-on-one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals. To be effective in this role, tutors should have knowledge from courses such as: Intro to Inorganic Chemistry, Intro to Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, General Chemistry, and other tutoring topics including: atomic structure, periodic trends, thermochemistry, acid-base reactions, chemical equilibria, and base reactions.

Essential Functions

  • Supports the department’s goal of providing students with supplemental academic support by:
  • Providing one-on-one and small group tutoring support
  • Providing subject-specific content strategies, attuned to different learning styles and preferences, to help students understand key concepts learned in class
  • Conducting “class visits” and assisting with publicizing the College’s tutoring services
  • Affording direct assistance in the use of equipment and learning materials needed for student’s success
  • Completing all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
  • Affording assistance with the maintenance of accurate records in accordance with stated deadlines
  • Affording assistance with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment; The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated; Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.; Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite

Set-Rate Non-Bargaining Part-Time Position

This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $18.21/ hour.

Special Note

If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College, as outlined in 3354:1-40-01.1
