Tutor, Math – TRIO Grant

Department: Youth, Adult and Community Connections • Location: Metropolitan Campus • Part-Time Support Staff • Non-Union

About the role

Works directly with students, providing academic tutorial assistance in support of the material taught in mathematics classes.

Responsibilities

• Provides one-to-one and small-group tutoring
• Develops and implements non-credit workshops
• Conducts “class visits” and assists with publicizing services
• Assists with the maintenance of records
• Completes all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
• Assists with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in a field commensurate with the needs of the department
• Demonstrated knowledge and competence of fundamental/advanced mathematical concepts with the ability to apply them in various situations
• Ability to explain concepts to others effectively
• Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success
• Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds
• Patience and positive attitude in establishing an encouraging learning environment
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively
• Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail
• Excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships
• Working knowledge of administrative and scheduling concepts, practices, and procedures
• Demonstrated basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity
• Sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population

Schedule

• Tuesday and Thursday: 9 am – 5 pm
• Friday: 10 am – 3 pm

Physical demands

• Work is performed in a normal, professional office environment
• Work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated
• Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform duties, including repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard
• May require some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, and books
• May require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite

This position is 100% grant funded.
