About the role
At Air Products, we seek a Mechanical Engineer I to join our Rotoflow® team in Bethlehem, PA. This position supports the design, analysis, and execution of proprietary high-speed rotating equipment and machinery support systems used by customers worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Execute mechanical design tasks supporting awarded projects, product development initiatives, aftermarket activities, and engineering studies.
- Perform turbomachinery design analyses including finite element analysis (FEA), hand calculations, and rotordynamic evaluations.
- Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to support the successful design and integration of equipment into customer processes.
- Select components and materials for turbomachinery equipment and support systems.
- Review manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation for technical accuracy and compliance with design requirements.
- Auxiliary in proposal development activities, including technical evaluations and engineering estimates.
- Support root cause analyses (RCA), troubleshooting efforts, commissioning activities, and field support initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop standardized products, engineering deliverables, and design best practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, manufacturability, and cost competitiveness across product offerings.
- Challenge conventional approaches through sound engineering principles, innovation, and creative problem-solving.
- Promote safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement consistent with Air Products and Rotoflow® values.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in design of turbomachinery or rotating equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals including machine design, materials, stress analysis, and thermodynamics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an aptitude for learning complex rotating machinery technologies.
- Detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, collaborative, and customer-focused.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across disciplines in a team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with rotating equipment, turbomachinery, compressors, pumps, expanders, or similar mechanical systems.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools and engineering simulation software.
- Exposure to rotordynamic analysis methods and techniques.
- Experience with 2D CAD and 3D modeling software.
- Familiarity with bearing technologies, sealing systems, and mechanical component design.
- Equipment startup, commissioning, testing, or plant integration experience.
- Programming experience using Python, MATLAB, C#, VB, or similar languages.

Schedule
This is a full-time, direct hire, exempt position based at our headquarters in Bethlehem, PA. Hybrid work schedule with 4 days in-office. Subject to change. Travel requirements: Minimal, generally less than 10% for customer support and project-related activities. Work environment: Office setting with exposure to engineering laboratories, testing facilities, and manufacturing operations.
