Turbomachinery Mechanic

About the role

A daily shift toolbox meeting covers safety, quality, general announcements, and distribution of work. You will disassemble, inspect, repair, and rebuild steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, and other related equipment alongside a team of mechanics, machinists, weld technicians, inspectors, engineers, and project managers. Customers include oil refineries, petrochemical plants, power plants, universities, and hospitals. Work is performed under the direct guidance of an experienced shop leadman and supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and assemble steam turbines, centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, and related equipment.
• Work safely and report unsafe conditions, near misses, and suggestions for improvement to shop leadership.
• Follow specific instructions and shop routers.
• Use wrenches, hydraulic tooling, and precision measurement tools (e.g., ID/OD micrometers, gauges, dial indicators) to inspect components.
• Record visual inspection findings, dimensional data, and measurements using hand-held tablet devices; photograph damage.
• Review bills of materials and manufacturing drawings to compile lists of replacement parts.
• Collaborate with repair engineers and project managers throughout inspections, repairs, and reassembly.
• Review and implement repair instructions and routers.
• Assemble equipment per OEM drawings, specifications, and standards, documenting and photographing progress.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
• Medium-sized toolbox on wheels, including hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc., up to 1 1/4”.
• Proven ability to interpret shop instructions and manufacturing drawings.
• Proven ability to read scales and micrometers.
• Familiarity with tools and equipment at the repair center.
• Demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks with limited supervision.
• Dependable, punctual, and proactive in communication, especially during emergencies.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed, including weekends and holidays.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in industrial mechanical repairs.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in rigging with straps, chains, chain-falls, swivel eyes, etc.
• Background in repair of reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, and/or steam turbines.
• Legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
