About the role
Tufting Assistants perform creeling, burning in, and machine operation tasks in a carpet manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate assigned tufting machines.
- Recognize and repair quality problems.
- Burn in beams with burner rack.
- Change and secure backing for machines.
- Creel machines in tufting and warping.
- Produce first-quality carpet and notify supervisor of any quality issues.
- Inspect carpet at intervals of no less than 50 feet.
- Repair carpet using a mending gun or punch needle.
- Drop rolls from a rollup and start new rolls onto tufting cores.
- Run tufting machines during Tufting Operator break periods.
- Learn and follow safety procedures and guidelines for the position and plant location.
- Meet footage/poundage expectations based on machine time and speed outputs.
- Report any accidents immediately.
- Wear required safety equipment.
- Report to management any quality, safety, or potential problems encountered.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
- Lift cores weighing 20+ lbs, 6 to 10 times per shift.
- Lift cones of yarn weighing 5 to 16 lbs at varying rates based on creel needs.
- Push yarn dollies/carts loaded with yarn (max weight 450 lbs) through the creel.
- Stand continuously for approximately 7.5 hours per shift.
- Reach to thread machines every 1 to 10 minutes while the machine is running.
- Stoop for intervals of 10 seconds during the shift.
- Bend multiple times per shift to thread machines.
- Use scissors multiple times per shift and snips multiple times per hour.
- Distinguish colors and shade differences.
- Occasionally climb, balance, kneel, and climb stairs.
- Work on two-level creel racks without issue.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication).
- Overtime is required on occasion.
