About the role

Certified Languages International (CLI) is a world‑class provider of interpreting services, operating since 1996 and serving thousands of organizations across the United States. The available position is 100% over‑the‑phone interpretation, handling a high volume of calls—most of which are medical in nature—for clients in industries such as insurance, finance, utilities, customer service, and state courts. CLI engages freelance interpreters as independent contractors, allowing you to work from home and set your own schedule while providing service 24/7 through an online portal or a landline telephone.

Responsibilities

• Provide over‑the‑phone interpretation for Limited English Proficient (LEP) speakers across various industries, with a focus on medical calls.
• Log on and off via CLI’s online portal or a landline telephone to indicate availability.
• Maintain professional interpreting standards and confidentiality during each call.

Requirements

• Legal authorization to work in the United States (SSN or EIN) and a valid photo ID.
• Reside within the United States (applicants from New York, New Jersey, or California are not being recruited at this time).
• Professional interpreting experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to interpret professionally in a rare dialect or language not currently listed on CLI’s job board.
• Strong listening, memory, and verbal rendering skills.
• Reliability and ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Pay

Interpreters are compensated on a per‑minute basis for every minute spent on the phone interpreting. Payments are issued twice a month, on the 15th and on the last day of the month, via direct deposit.

Because you set your own schedule and CLI’s clients require service around the clock, you can log on and off at any time that suits you, using the online portal or a landline telephone.
