Responsibilities
- Aid in trust and estate administration, including obtaining tax identification numbers.
- Support attorneys in estate planning, such as drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care proxies, funding documents, and correspondence.
- Prepare and file probate administration documents with Massachusetts and New Hampshire Probate and Family Courts.
- Handle estate tax and gift tax returns.
- Communicate with clients, fiduciaries, financial advisors, accountants, appraisers, financial institutions, and other third parties.
- Prepare deeds, trustee certificates, homestead declarations, and other estate planning documents.
- Manage assignments of interest documents and track execution and compilation of exhibits for complex estate planning transactions.
- Organize calendars and track critical deadlines, including probate filings, tax return due dates, and estate plan signings.
- Maintain organized client files and assist with ongoing matter management.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of paralegal experience in trusts & estates.
- Strong experience in supporting estate planning, probate, and trust administration matters.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts probate and trust administration procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proofreading ability, and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to interact professionally with clients, families, fiduciaries, and professional advisors.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and legal document management systems.
- Confidentiality and handling sensitive information.
- Paralegal certificate preferred but not required.
