Project/Unit Description
The Hardware Security and Trust (HST) Division focuses on evaluating the security, trust, and reliability of microelectronic devices and systems. HST develops tools and techniques for FPGAs, ASICs, SoCs, microcontrollers, and other microelectronics. The division collaborates with other departments at Georgia Tech and contributes to the institute's mission of advancing technology and improving society.
Job Purpose
A microelectronics expert to research and contribute to the design, synthesis, characterization, packaging, testing, reliability, security, and trustworthiness of nano-fabricated microelectronic semiconductor devices. This role involves collaboration with a technical team, proposal ideation, and internal research efforts.
Responsibilities
- Utilize industry standard microelectronic design and verification tools (e.g., Vivado, Quartus, Cadence, Modelsim, OneSpin)
- Develop custom software and scripting solutions for microelectronics hardware security
- Implement software interfacing with microelectronics design EDA/CAD tools
- Implement advanced algorithms for graph analysis, data analysis, and clustering
- Utilize basic microelectronics laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analyzers, optical microscopes, soldering equipment) for design, analysis, and verification tasks
- Contribute small sections to technical reports and presentations
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement hardware leveraging at least one industry-standard HDL language (e.g., Verilog, VHDL)
- Work with at least one major FPGA vendor design tool suite (e.g., Xilinx Vivado, Altera/Intel Quartus, Microsemi Libero)
- Perform verification of hardware designs using industry-standard tools and methodologies (e.g., ModelSim/Questa, SystemVerilog, UVM)
- Use Python / Octave/MATLAB/Simulink for modeling digital signal processing blocks
- Design and manufacture analog/digital circuits and PCBs
- Write embedded C/C++ or Rust code and a high-level scripting language (e.g., Python, TCL)
- Work in a Linux environment
Additional Responsibilities
- Understand embedded systems, hardware design, digital logic design, and various microelectronic architecture
- Have a strong understanding of hardware design and experience with common hardware interfaces (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C)
- Experience with analog/digital circuit design and PCB design and manufacturing
- Experience with embedded C/C++ or Rust programming and a high-level scripting language (e.g., Python, TCL)
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment
