Trust Officer

About the role

A Trust Officer at Canandaigua National Bank provides complete trust services including estates, personal trusts, guardianships, corporate trusts, Supplemental Needs Trusts, and any other appropriate fiduciary capacity. This position is responsible for the administration and discharge of the bank’s legal and fiduciary responsibilities for all assigned estate and trust accounts. The role involves retaining existing business and pursuing new business opportunities while meeting goals outlined in CNB Wealth's annual operating plan.

Responsibilities

• Provides complete trust services to bank customers, including estates, personal trusts, guardianships, corporate trusts, and other fiduciary capacities.
• Assumes responsibility for the administration and discharge of the bank’s legal and fiduciary duties for assigned accounts by:
  • Analyzing account requirements, studying nominating instruments, determining cash needs, and anticipating tax consequences.
  • Reviewing wills and trust agreements to establish fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Administering Supplemental Needs Trusts, considering beneficiary needs, trust terms, and coordination with government benefits.
  • Arranging and conducting meetings with clients or other interested parties as necessary.
  • Directing the collection, appraisal, safekeeping, disposition, and accounting of tangible personal property per fiduciary agreements and CNB Wealth policies.
  • Conferring with clients, heirs, attorneys, and other parties to explain the bank’s role, resolve problems, and provide assistance.
  • Coordinating with Wealth Advisors to monitor cash and investments, considering account objectives, beneficiary needs, and cash requirements.
• Maintains awareness of legal changes affecting trust and estate accounts, particularly under SCPA and EPTL.
• Prepares and maintains documentation, status records, and reports on trusts, estates, business development, and financial planning activities.
• Prepares tax, regulatory, and other governmental forms as required.
• Actively engages in customer activity to meet annual CNB Wealth goals, including new business development, revenue growth, asset retention, compliance reporting, and line-of-business referrals.
• Performs supportive tasks that may be altered or re-designed based on individual circumstances.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a field related to banking, normally required.
• Juris Doctor (JD) or master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience administering fiduciary accounts, normally required.
• Related legal or business experience in financial services, including trust and estate planning, preferred.
• Knowledge of government benefits for disabled beneficiaries, particularly for Supplemental Needs Trusts, preferred.
• CTFA (Certified Trust and Financial Advisor) certification preferred.

Pay

Compensation range: $82,500 - $102,000. The actual salary offered within the range depends on factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, skills, level offered, and performance expectations.

Schedule

4 days in office and 1 day work from home, based in Pittsford, NY.
