Responsibilities

  • Stack and band roof truss packages according to size and job number.
  • Operate a forklift safely (certification provided by instructor).
  • Inspect trusses for damage or missing plates.
  • Read production sheets to verify lot number, quantity, and tag accuracy.
  • Safely load and use a nail and staple gun.
  • Read and understand plans for building 2-ply, 3-ply, and 4-ply trusses.
  • Operate the finish press on all jack trusses.
  • Operate the hydraulic stacker, sorting and stacking by side and job.
  • Read and understand production plans for sheathing gables (up, down, full, or partial).
  • Distinguish between nail patterns on girders and gables.
  • Plan ahead to stack trusses in the yard without slowing production.
  • Safely operate a forklift to unload trusses up to 60’ in length.
  • Read plate counts on plans and pull correct plates for trusses.
  • Identify different sizes and gauges of plates and understand substitution procedures.
  • Document all plate changes and maintain an organized, clean, and stocked plate area.
  • Use a hammer and belt holder for plating trusses.
  • Read and understand plans for proper plate placement.
  • Securely fasten plates to truss joints.
  • Safely operate gantry and truss lifters to move trusses to the finish press line.
  • Clean up the work area as required.
  • Understand truss component markings and stack components correctly on carts.
  • Check carts for missing components by comparing to the component list.
  • Accurately make truss tags for carts and label components per cut sheets.
  • Move carts to the staging area in preparation for assembly.
  • Clean saw as per Sawyer II instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area with materials flat-stacked.
  • Stage empty carts as directed.
  • Be present at the workstation, wearing personal protection equipment, and ready to work at starting time.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to accurately read and understand a tape measure down to a 16th of an inch.
  • Knowledge of common building materials used in residential, multi-family, and commercial construction.
  • Understanding of the component manufacturing process in residential, multi-family, and commercial construction.
  • Attention to detail and pride in the quality of work.
  • Efficiency in completing assignments within deadlines.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with team members.
