About the role
The Garage Mechanic repairs and maintains all company vehicles assigned to the Moorefield Complex. This person must be able to perform repairs and maintenance on all company vehicles. This requires mechanical skills, welding skills, and troubleshooting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Start the shift by making sure everything in the garage area is running efficiently.
- Look over the assigned job tasks for that day.
- Work well with others, communicate effectively, and exercise good decision-making ability.
- Perform the PM's during production run time on a weekly basis and report deficiencies to supervisor.
- Enter required data into SAP.
- Work on loaders, fire fans, reefers and other odd equipment.
- Learn and use diagnostic software on a laptop.
- Work in wash bay department if need be, including washing equipment, degreasing equipment and cleaning inside of reefer trailers.
- Go off site for training as required.
- Lift up to 85 lbs. and work at high heights.
- Perform administrative duties and records (e.g., PM's, logs, etc.).
- Work in extreme temperatures and humidity.
- Work holidays, weekends, and possibly different shifts (day, evening, or night).
- Other duties as directed.
Qualifications
- CDL is a plus; must be willing to obtain.
- Must have a valid State Inspection License or be willing to obtain one within 6 months.
- Minimum of 2 years heavy-duty truck repair experience.
- Loader repair experience required.
- Must have or be willing to obtain Air Conditioner and Brake Certification.
- Desire to be part of a proactive, motivated team.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to comprehend simple instructions.
- Ability to apply common sense.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to work in cool temperatures (around 40 degrees).
- Ability to stand and use hands for 8-11 hours per day.
- Ability to multitask and work quickly.
- Must be a team player and willing to work close to other employees at some stations (less than 3 feet apart).
- Good communication skills.
- Good hand and eye coordination required.
- Food or production experience preferred.
