About the role

This position operates a truck along an assigned route to collect solid waste. Unloads truck at landfill. Conducts vehicle inspections to ensure safety and operability; performs minor maintenance and repairs. Resolves customer service complaints. Repairs and maintains carts. Mows and trims grass and weeds. Performs related duties.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a truck along an assigned route to collect solid waste.
  • Unloads truck at landfill.
  • Cleans and maintains trucks.
  • Conducts vehicle inspections to ensure safety and operability; performs minor maintenance and repairs.
  • Resolves customer service complaints.
  • Repairs and maintains carts.
  • Mows and trims grass and weeds.
  • Performs related duties.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Must possess a current and valid Alabama Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance, and repair principles.
  • Skill in planning, organization, and decision making.
  • Skill in providing customer services.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Good driving history.
  • No disqualifications from driving or operating a commercial vehicle.
  • Valid Alabama driver's license.
  • Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Willingness to work early morning shifts (including starting before 6:00 AM).
  • Able to work around traffic and in residential areas safely.
  • Able to perform daily vehicle inspections and basic maintenance checks.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00 per hour.

Schedule

The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
