Troubleman
About KUB
KUB is one of the largest public utilities in the country providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric, gas, water, wastewater, and fiber services to more than 520,000 customers in Knoxville and parts of seven surrounding counties. We are looking for employees who want to be a part of a mission-driven organization with strong values that support a skilled, diverse, and inclusive workforce.
About the Role
As a Troubleman, you'll be a key resource for troubleshooting, repairing, and ensuring service reliability. Your duties involve restoring electrical service to customers by determining the nature of service problems, making repairs if possible, and requesting additional resources when needed. You'll also determine and notify customers if the issue is on their side of the meter and beyond KUB's scope of service.
You'll work closely with System Operations to restore and maintain system integrity, performing switching operations in substations and on overhead and underground circuits. Routine system maintenance is also part of your responsibilities. In emergency situations, such as fires or accidents, you'll clear lines for public safety. This role requires you to climb poles or work from a bucket, demonstrating competency with the APPA Safety Manual, the Hazardous Energy Control Document, and other KUB safety standards. You'll utilize mobile data systems to document fieldwork and location.
You'll be working outside, often alone, in all kinds of weather, handling high-voltage lines and equipment. Your hours will include weekends, nights, holidays, and extended periods during system outages and events.
