TRIO Director III
VOALA is a non-profit human services organization committed to serving people in need, strengthening families, and building communities. We provide a variety of social services to Los Angeles area communities, including Head Start programs, Upward Bound college prep programs, veterans’ services, homeless shelters, low-income housing, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
About the role
The TRIO Director III administers the operations of assigned Upward Bound and Talent Search programs, leading a staff of instructors and tutors. The Director ensures program operations follow established policies, standards, and procedures per EDGAR regulations and other TRIO program requirements. Responsibilities include managing program activities, supervising staff, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and funder requirements, maintaining fiscal and student data records, and evaluating program objectives. Program leaders must meet all contractual daily Key Performance Indicators, including daily program numbers, data quality input, note-taking, exit indicators, and services provided.
Responsibilities
- Direct a full range of professional and para-professional employees in efficient program operations
- Develop strategic plans consistent with the mission of the TRIO Programs
- Develop and facilitate various college prep and parent workshops
- Develop and facilitate college and career planning seminars
- Plan and conduct academic, recreational, and cultural activities for project participants
- Administer assessment inventories and interpret test results to determine participants' needs
- Maintain accurate and updated statistical data for required reports
- Prepare and submit the Annual Performance Report by the government-published deadline
- Develop non-federal resources to support project activities
- Evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations for program changes and improvements
- Advise senior management regarding future program direction
- Develop and maintain harmonious relationships with the Grantee, other TRIO programs, target schools, and community agencies
- Hire and retain appropriate staff, ensuring career development and succession planning
- Monitor program compliance with funding sources' regulations and internal policies and procedures
- Remain current on trends in secondary education and youth outreach; ensure professional growth and career development of staff
- Lead and monitor Talent Search and Upward Bound programs, set program goals, and secure necessary resources
- Supervise hiring and retention of staff, conduct workforce and succession planning
- Ensure subordinate programs meet funder requirements
- Collaborate with other service providers to link programs to community resources and supportive services
- Keep comprehensive records of compliance with funder and regulatory requirements
- Effectively plan workload of subordinate individuals and programs; manage budgets, deployment, and organization of resources
- Identify better, faster, and more efficient ways to achieve the mission of Head Start/Early Head Start
- Engage in community outreach
- Coach and mentor junior staff
- Perform other duties as required and subject to change
Services for this position must be provided on-site. Supervisors/managers/leaders must be on-site to provide proper direction and oversight.
Requirements
- Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment, and education verifications
- Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts when dealing with difficult, uncooperative, and potentially aggressive clients
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education, human services, social work, or a related field
- Minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing educational programs
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of relevant professional experience working in a program with disadvantaged and at-risk youth
- Knowledge of academic and child development services, development of individualized service plans
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
Pay
$100,107.53 - $105,376.35 per year
