Full-time, non-exempt position.
About the role
Entry-level trainee position focused on tree trimming and removal, equipment operation, and job-site safety.
Responsibilities
- Trim and/or remove trees, branches, and trunk sections.
- Operate and service all required tools and equipment, including gasoline, air, and hand-powered tools.
- Cut and split large debris into manageable pieces.
- Spray areas with equipment to prevent further growth.
- Load and unload trucks; feed brush and debris into a woodchipper.
- Repair minor job-related damage to lawns, fences, and walkways.
- Relay hand signals, direct traffic, drive, and operate trucks and equipment as assigned.
- Maintain trucks and work areas in a clear and orderly condition.
- Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area.
- Cooperate with customers, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways.
- Set up barriers, warning signs, flags, markers, etc., to protect employees and the public.
- Perform tree and bucket rescue; assist in training new employees.
- Inspect and ensure proper working conditions of tools, trucks, and other work equipment; request repairs or replacements as needed.
- Maintain good housekeeping on trucks and at work locations.
- Perform other related work as assigned by superiors.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to work with hands above head for extended periods.
- Able to walk, climb, and work from ladders or at various heights on uneven and slippery surfaces.
- Perform mentally and physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material.
- No fear of heights; good hand-to-eye coordination.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred; entry-level position with no experience required (previous experience is a plus).
- Upon offer, may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and/or MVR check.
- Driver’s License preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Rare (less than 10%): Sitting, kneeling, crawling, color vision, climbing stairs.
- Occasional (up to 33%): Stooping, squatting, climbing on/off truck, climbing ladders, pushing, reading.
- Frequent (up to 66%): Carrying, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, body-twisting, hearing/speech range, lifting up to 10 lbs., manual dexterity, speaking clearly, walking.
- Continuous (up to 100%): Standing, sense of touch, gripping, seeing distant, reaching, range-of-motion, depth perception, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., climbing poles.
Safety
- Must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance and coordination of equipment and tools.
- Able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods.
- Must withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary.
- Able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day.
- Must have the endurance to traverse various terrain and perform job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day.
- Capable of communicating with others, reading, writing, and comprehending written/verbal job instructions and information.
- Able to communicate and handle conflict professionally.
