About the Role
This is a full-time, non-exempt position focused on tree trimming, climbing, and related maintenance tasks. The role involves operating and servicing tools and equipment, ensuring safety, and performing physically demanding work in various conditions.
Responsibilities
- Trim and/or remove trees, branches, and trunk sections.
- Operate and service all required tools and equipment, including gasoline, air, and hand-powered tools.
- Cut and split large debris into manageable pieces.
- Spray areas to prevent further growth.
- Load and unload trucks; feed brush and debris into a woodchipper.
- Repair minor job-related damage to lawns, fences, and walkways.
- Relay hand signals, direct traffic, and operate trucks and equipment as assigned.
- Maintain trucks and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
- Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the work area.
- Cooperate with customers, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways.
- Set up barriers, warning signs, flags, and markers to protect employees and the public.
- Perform tree and bucket rescue; assist in training new employees.
- Inspect and ensure proper working conditions of tools, trucks, and other equipment; request repairs or replacements as needed.
- Perform other related work as assigned by superiors.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to work with hands above head for extended periods.
- Ability to walk, climb, and work from ladders or at various heights on uneven and slippery surfaces.
- Must perform mentally and physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or materials.
- No fear of heights; good hand-to-eye coordination.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred (entry-level position; no experience required).
- Previous experience is a plus.
- Driver’s License preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Rare (less than 10%): Sitting, kneeling, crawling, color vision, climbing stairs.
- Occasional (up to 33%): Stooping, squatting, climbing on/off truck, climbing ladders, pushing, reading.
- Frequent (up to 66%): Carrying, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, body-twisting, hearing/speech range, lifting up to 10 lbs., manual dexterity, speaking clearly, walking.
- Continuous (up to 100%): Standing, sense of touch, gripping, seeing distant, reaching, range-of-motion, depth perception, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., climbing poles.
