About the role
The Opportunity We are currently seeking a talented personal injury and PIP Trial Attorney for our Detroit, MI staff counsel location.
Responsibilities
- Independently manages caseload of simple to moderate Property and Casualty insurance defense cases through arbitration, trial, and possible appeal for clients on cases assigned.
- May handle and/or assist with complex litigation cases.
- Appears in court as required, including arbitrations, trials, and mediations.
- Provides legal advice to clients and P&C Claims team members.
- Develops, and implements legal strategy and ongoing budget projections to Claims Litigation, and clients, as appropriate on assigned cases.
- Presents legal pleadings, motions, statements, memoranda, trial briefs and other legal documents on assigned cases.
- Counsels and negotiates settlements directly with plaintiffs' attorneys.
- Stays current on all relevant statutes, case law, office, and trial-related technology.
- Attends courses as assigned to maintain appropriate skill sets for trial.
- Supports staff, P&C Claims and Claims Litigation regarding changes in law, litigation and/or and other processes.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience.
- 6 years of experience practicing law handling personal injury or civil litigation or trial cases.
- Licensed to practice law in the jurisdiction(s) to be served.
- Experience practicing law in the court systems within the geographic area being served.
- Ability to perform online legal research.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Qualifications
- Six or more years of experience handling personal injury and PIP insurance defense cases within a staff counsel setting or at a law firm in Detroit, MI.
- First chair jury trial experience, including verdicts, in Michigan.
- US military experience with skills related to one of the following MOS’s: Navy (Legalman (LN), Marines (4410, 4411, 4402, 4405), Army (27A), USAF (51JX / 5J0X1))US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner.

Pay
The salary range for this position is: $114,880 - $218,030.
