Responsibilities
- Captures and implements staff training, in-services, and internal developmental programs.
- Supervises nursing staff in providing professional nursing care to patients.
- Recognizes and supports the physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of patient care.
- Adheres to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations.
- Ensures all licensing and certification criteria are met.
- Affords assistance in the review and revision of clinical policies and procedures.
- Maintains effective nursing staff coverage and operating costs within budgetary parameters.
- Participates in the interviewing and recruiting of nursing personnel.
- Performs tasks assigned to staff nurses as necessary.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of applicable labor laws and schedules, coordinating employee staffing including vacations, sick leave, and overtime.
- Maintains clinical operations and practice consistent with organizational objectives.
- Makes sure patient satisfaction and quality assurance measures are monitored and evaluated.
- Coordinates the correct use of charge codes and educates staff on correct procedures per reimbursement guidelines.
- Develops new services and activities for patients, families, and staff in accordance with practice service objectives.
- Supports staff retention and training programs with support from clinic leads.
- Assists with annual performance evaluations for nursing department staff.
- Serves as a mentor/preceptor and provides day-to-day guidance to less experienced nurses.
Qualifications
- Education/Training: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN or MSN preferred; RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state; Current CPR certification required.
- Business Experience: Minimum five years actively practicing as a registered nurse, including at least three years oncology experience; one-year leadership experience preferred.
- Specialized Knowledge/Skills: Oncology certification preferred.
- Working Conditions: Traditional office environment; exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology clinic environment.
- Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination; standing and walking for extensive periods of time; occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.; requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
