Schedule: Part-time position (30 or 32 hours). Start times vary: mornings (8a, 9a, or 10a) or afternoons (12p, 1p, 2p, or later). 8-hour or 10-hour shifts available. Must be available to work every fourth weekend and holiday rotation. Due to licensing restrictions, remote work is not permitted from the following states: CA, CO, CT, HI, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA.
Responsibilities
- Uses the nursing process and established protocols to assess patient needs telephonically, including patient, guardian, or family input when necessary.
- Determines appropriate level of care, provides education, establishes a care plan, and communicates follow-up instructions to the patient.
- Escalates and collaborates with on-call providers when additional guidance is needed.
- Prioritizes patient interactions by acuity and need, applying evidence-based practice to deliver care.
- Implements strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety.
- Assesses patient and family readiness to learn and individualizes educational approaches.
- Works collaboratively to develop strategies that meet learning needs of patients and families.
- Supports shared governance activities and department quality/process improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
- Participates in professional development activities and completes annual competencies in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills to promote collaboration among healthcare team members.
- Promotes a culture of safety by identifying threats, intervening to prevent harm, and reporting safety events or near misses.
- Applies ethical decision-making and demonstrates respect for peers and other clinical disciplines.
- Participates as an effective team member to formulate unbiased, individualized care plans.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan to provide age-appropriate care.
- Schedules appointments aligned with protocol recommendations and collaborates with healthcare team members on patient management.
- Maintains and updates patient clinical records according to agency, state, and federal guidelines.
- Documents all call encounters in the Electronic Medical Record and communicates patient status to physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
- Participates in team meetings, special projects, and ongoing development of health information resources and system efficiencies.
- Assists in interpreting department policies and procedures and advises staff on procedural changes.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
- Associate's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Nursing.
- 2+ years of acute care experience within the last 4 years (ED, Urgent Care, ICU, and some Med/Surg experience will be considered).
- Stable and secure internet connection.
- Functional vision, touch, speech, and hearing.
- Ability to sit for the majority of the workday.
- Quiet space to make and receive phone calls.
- Ability to lift up to 15 lbs.
Skills

- Knowledge of various healthcare specialties, including levels of care, symptom identification, and treatment recommendations.

- Proficiency with computers, internet, desktop software, and multi-line telephone systems.
- Ability to converse with patients while documenting calls on multiple systems.
- Knowledge of documentation techniques for effective communication.
