Trenchless Geotechnical Team Lead

About the role

The Trenchless Geotechnical Team Lead will report to the Trenchless Services Engineering Lead, contributing to the Trenchless Program by applying geologic information to engineering and design practices, leading geotechnical exploration campaigns, evaluating subsurface conditions, and providing recommendations for problematic geologic conditions. This role involves leading comprehensive geotechnical investigations, managing geotechnical data, and supporting other business groups within HDR.

Responsibilities

• Utilize experience and expertise to apply geologic information to engineering and design practices.
• Lead, coordinate, and execute geotechnical exploration campaigns.
• Evaluate subsurface conditions for impacts to feasibility of design and construction.
• Determine recommendations for solutions to problematic geologic conditions.
• Interface with the broader team to integrate geotechnical data, concepts, and considerations into project deliverables.
• Focus on leading and executing comprehensive geotechnical investigations for various trenchless projects.
• Complete field work to direct and oversee subcontracted geotechnical drilling crews.
• Perform field soil and rock logging and testing.
• Collect geotechnical data.
• Coordinate laboratory programs.
• Analyze data and generate reports.
• Serve as a local resource to HDR’s Area of Operations.
• Support geotechnical data management utilizing OpenGround and/or gINT software.
• Aid in geotechnical analyses of subsurface conditions.
• Create geological cross sections for HFIAs.
• Assist in generating design reports.
• Advance capabilities in software programs for generating trenchless deliverables.
• Support other business groups within the broader HDR organization.
• Maintain workload and delegate responsibilities to other geologists or geotechnical professionals.
• Manage workload and accountability for direct reports.
• Plan, resource forecast, cost estimate, schedule, and manage risk for all geological and geotechnical initiatives.
• Lead and manage a team of geotechnical-focused individuals.
• Communicate effectively with clients and team members off-site.
• Monitor and report on daily construction activities.
• Interface with construction contractors.
• Present field data in a timely manner with a high level of quality.
• Interpret subsurface conditions and lead efforts for incorporating pertinent geological and geotechnical data/information into critical determinations during design and construction.
• Support other business groups within the broader HDR organization.
• Travel as necessary, including longer term travel, to perform field work.
• Monitor and report on daily activities, run geological field tests, interpret lab test results, maintain field test equipment, and present field data.
