Tree Grounds Person (Windsor/Hartford)

Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform basic ground-level tree care operations in support of pruning, removal, and maintenance activities
- Operate powered equipment such as woodchippers, trucks, and blowers safely and effectively
- Use hand tools like hand saws, pole pruners, rakes, and shovels for tree care tasks
- Select and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as per industry and company standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure job site
- Implement traffic and pedestrian control measures to protect the work zone
Education And Experience
- 1-3+ years of experience as a groundman is mandatory
- Follow established directions and procedures related to roping and rigging, maintenance, equipment adjustments, and reporting of malfunctions
- Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division involving weight, volume, and distance
- Estimate or calculate measurements relevant to arboricultural field operations
- Apply critical thinking to interpret and carry out instructions
- Complete standardized tasks with competence, adapting to occasional field variables as needed
- Communicate clearly and safely with climbers and other crew members using standardized hand signals
- Communicate with the general public to provide clear direction and ensure safety around the work zone
Physical Demands/Requirements
- Able to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 80 pounds
- At least 18 years old (21 if operating company provided vehicles)
- Possess strong stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
- Able to safely operate landscaping equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers)
- Able to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, stand, walk continuously throughout the day and perform repetitive motions for extended periods
- Able to perform manual labor using a variety of hand tools (e.g. shovels, rakes)
- Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., safety shoes, high-visibility clothing, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, head protection)
- Required to have a valid driver’s license and meet company standards related to motor vehicle performance
- Able to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays if needed
- Able to maintain medications for addressing known allergic reactions
Work Environment
- Outdoor/indoor work in moderate to extreme weather conditions (e.g., temperatures more than 100°F, temperatures below 32°F, various levels of humidity)
- Direct sunlight for extended periods of time
- Near automotive traffic, bodies of water, fumes, dust, mechanical and/or electrical hazards
- Loud noise environments
- Environments with exposure to allergens, insects, and reptiles

Compensation
Pay Range: $20-$25/hour depending on experience
