About the role
As a Treatment Unit Clerk, you will work on a ward or unit of a psychiatric center, responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and monitoring of clerical records and reports related to the activities of employees and patients in the assigned work area. You will respond to routine inquiries about unit functions or programs from visitors, employees, and patients from other areas of the facility.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain, and monitor clerical records and reports for employees and patients.
- Respond to routine inquiries regarding unit functions or programs.
- Order and maintain an inventory of unit supplies.
- Perform miscellaneous clerical duties to ensure efficient operation of the assigned work area.
- Depending on facility organization, perform these functions for a building, treatment unit, service ward, or group of wards.
You will be assigned to work in patient areas.
Requirements
Candidates may qualify under the following conditions:
- Treatment Unit Clerk (NY HELPS program): 18 months of clerical, secretarial, or direct care experience in a mental health facility or setting.
- Treatment Unit Clerk Trainee (NY HELPS program): One year of clerical, secretarial, or direct care experience in a mental health facility or setting. After successful completion of a six-month traineeship, candidates will automatically advance to Treatment Unit Clerk, SG-7, without further examination.
- Transfer within State Service: One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Pay
This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $4,000. Salary reflects starting salary for Trainee at Grade 6 to ending salary of full-performance, Grade 7.
