About the role

Capital District Psychiatric Center (CDPC) is recruiting for Social Work Assistant 1 or Social Work Assistant Trainee to provide case management and service coordination activities for individuals with mental illness. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

Responsibilities

• Interviewing individuals and their families to gather background information
• Preparing case histories and determining eligibility for services
• Advocating and assisting individuals in identifying and obtaining services

Minimum Qualifications

• For Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (NY HELPS):
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human service field
• For appointment to Social Work Assistant 1:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services field and one year of social work experience
  • Master’s degree in social work can substitute for 1 year of specialized experience
• For transfer to a competitive class position from within State Service:
  • One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law

Traineeship

The Social Work Assistant Traineeship is 1-year in length at Salary Grade - 12. After the successful completion of the 1-year traineeship, trainees will advance to the full performance Social Work Assistant 1 level at Salary Grade - 14 if their performance is considered satisfactory.
