Traveling Pipelayer (Utilities)
About the role
The utilities pipelayer is responsible for providing physical labor at construction project sites. Duties include operating various hand and power tools, cleaning and preparing sites, digging trenches, setting braces, and cleaning up waste materials. The role also involves assisting other craft workers and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Operate hand and power tools such as air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and other equipment.
- Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support excavation sides, and clean up rubble, debris, and waste materials.
- Absorb and report any safety issues promptly.
- Load and unload trucks, haul and hoist materials, and maintain a clean job site daily.
- Ensure proper identification and protection of underground and overhead utilities before excavating.
- Communicate with superiors about ongoing tasks and potential impacts on project progress.
- Perform other projects or duties as directed by management.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, with six to twelve months of construction experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- OSHA 10 certification, First Aid/CPR, and demonstrated knowledge of safety precautions and procedures.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings (plans/blueprints).
- Experience setting up and utilizing a pipe laser and an eye-level (transit).
- Knowledge and ability to work with construction equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ability to follow safety guidelines and complete company safety training.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to perform manual work and handle up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and on variable terrain.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Union affiliation or willingness to join the union.
- Flexible to work 8 to 10-hour shifts and occasional weekends.

Pay
