We are seeking an experienced Traveling MEP Superintendent to lead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction on turnkey commercial and mission-critical projects, primarily data centers. This role requires frequent travel between project sites to supervise installation, commissioning, and closeout of MEP systems while ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
Responsibilities
- Provide onsite leadership and supervision for MEP installation, testing, and commissioning across multiple project sites, with frequent travel.
- Coordinate and manage MEP subcontractors, vendors, and craft teams to meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and MEP schematics; verify installation aligns with design intent and code requirements.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, daily reports, and site documentation; proactively identify and mitigate schedule risks.
- Ensure compliance with safety programs and mission-critical site protocols (e.g., lockout/tagout, cleanroom procedures, access control).
- Lead startup and commissioning activities for HVAC, chilled water, UPS interfaces, plumbing, fire protection, and controls; work closely with commissioning agents and owners.
- Conduct quality inspections, punch list resolution, and final acceptance walkdowns with clients and design teams.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and estimators to resolve design and field coordination issues and implement field design changes when required.
- Train and mentor onsite crews on best practices for installation, testing, and documentation; enforce company standards and QA/QC procedures.
- Utilize construction management tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, BIM) to track progress, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
Requirements
- 8+ years of progressive MEP construction experience with at least 3–5 years in a superintendent or senior field lead role; experience in data centers or mission-critical facilities strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in mechanical systems (HVAC, chilled water, refrigeration), plumbing, and general MEP coordination.
- Proven experience on commercial construction projects and mission-critical/data center environments, including commissioning and startup.
- Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of codes and standards applicable to MEP and data centers (IBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, NEC, local codes).
- Familiarity with construction software and tools: Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, AutoCAD/BIM preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills; able to coordinate multiple trades and communicate with owners and design teams.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently (typically 50–80% travel).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: OSHA 30, NICET, PMP, or commissioning credentials (CxA); HVAC/controls and refrigeration training a plus.
- Ability to work in high-pressure, mission-critical environments with strict access, documentation, and safety requirements.
