About the Role
This is a full-time traveling position supporting projects across the United States. The posted location may not reflect the assigned project site.
Responsibilities
- Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction based on starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase, using knowledge of tools, equipment, and building methods.
- Interacts with the Project Manager to determine the project schedule; develops and utilizes "look ahead" schedules to assess progress and spot upcoming issues.
- Coordinates the pre-construction meeting with the Project Manager prior to mobilization.
- Directs procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
- Ensures all parties involved with the project are informed of construction issues and progress:
- Meets with and directs supervisory personnel engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
- Meets regularly with craft personnel to update them on construction issues and gather input for solutions.
- Meets with subcontractors prior to mobilization to review scope of work and schedule; advises subs prior to each phase of work on schedule and phasing requirements.
- Meets regularly with clients to update them on the project's progress.
- Works with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within the project workforce.
- Confers with supervisory and engineering personnel and/or inspectors and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
- Inspects work in progress to ensure conformance to specifications and construction schedules.
- Manages the project based on progress reports, materials used, and costs; adjusts work schedules accordingly.
- Works with the Manager of Craft Resources to move personnel between projects, minimizing hiring and layoffs; responsible for crew mixes and work assignments to manage labor costs; may terminate company craft personnel not performing according to policies or job requirements.
- Works with the project manager in preparing the Project Management Plan.
- Ensures company policies (e.g., safety, equal opportunity) are implemented consistently and that quality standards and housekeeping requirements are maintained.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in ground-up light industrial construction projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction processes.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to and from project sites nationwide.
- Ability to understand and apply building codes, design requirements, and blueprints accurately.
- Good understanding of subcontractors' scopes of work and tolerances.
