Traveling Construction Superintendent - Light Industrial
About the role
This is a full-time traveling position supporting projects across the United States. The posted location may not reflect the assigned project site.
Responsibilities
- Study specifications to plan procedures for construction based on starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase, using knowledge of tools, equipment, and building methods.
- Interact with the Project Manager to determine the project schedule; develop and utilize "look ahead" schedules to assess progress and identify upcoming issues.
- Coordinate the pre-construction meeting with the Project Manager prior to mobilization.
- Direct procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
- Ensure all parties involved with the project are informed of construction issues and progress by:
- Meeting with and directing supervisory personnel to plan and execute work procedures, interpret specifications, and coordinate construction phases to prevent delays.
- Meeting regularly with craft personnel to update them on construction issues and gather input for solutions.
- Meeting with subcontractors prior to mobilization to review scope of work and schedule; advising subs on schedule and phasing requirements before each phase of work.
- Meeting regularly with clients to update them on the project's progress.
- Work with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within the project workforce.
- Confer with supervisory and engineering personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve methods.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure conformance to specifications and construction schedules.
- Manage the project based on progress reports, materials used, and costs; adjust work schedules accordingly.
- Work with the Manager of Craft Resources to move personnel between projects, minimizing hiring and layoffs; manage crew mixes and work assignments to control labor costs; may terminate company craft personnel not meeting job requirements.
- Work with the Project Manager in preparing the Project Management Plan.
- Ensure company policies (e.g., safety, equal opportunity) are consistently implemented and maintain company quality standards and housekeeping requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in ground-up light industrial construction projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction processes.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to and from project sites across the United States.
- Ability to read blueprints accurately and apply building codes and design requirements correctly.
- Understanding of subcontractors' scopes of work and tolerances.
