About the Role

Construction Managers are Dennis Group’s project site supervisors that oversee the daily operations of the construction activities including coordination of sub-contractors, site safety programs, project schedule, and project budget. Our projects involve designing and building food and beverage process facilities (industrial / MEP projects), requiring coordination with multiple engineering groups, designers, and architects. The Construction Manager is a skilled communicator, able to interact with all levels of personnel, coordinate and facilitate meetings, and possess strong technical skills to function proficiently with multiple software programs. This role ensures project progression through both field and office construction management tasks.

Responsibilities

• Daily supervision of construction activities, including coordination of subcontractors and site safety programs
• Oversight or supervision of assigned field engineers or Jr Construction Managers when directed
• Work autonomously on overseeing medium-sized projects
• Collaborate with project management on developing and updating project scope, budget, and schedule
• Project accounting, budgeting, and cost management
• Establish and maintain site safety procedures with the safety team
• Oversee process, mechanical, and utility equipment installations
• Permitting, code and regulatory administration, and approval
• Change order and general construction administration
• Coordination of field engineering and inspection activities
• Manage third-party testing, inspection, and relationships
• Research construction management best practices
• Client-facing collaboration with owners, subcontractors, building officials, and the A/E team
• Prepare and administer third-party agreements
• Conduct jobsite walks/audits to ensure project progression and adherence to plans and schedule
• Procure project services and equipment (rentals, PPE, etc.)
• Support and coordinate facility start-up
• Prepare and maintain project reports and logs
• Work with subcontractors to ensure schedule compliance and determine alternative resources or options
• Review and maintain submittals, RFIs, and change orders
• Collaborate with Project Controllers and Project Manager on supplier invoices and client billing
• Perform engineering calculations
• Prepare permit applications
• Assist in preparing work plans and work packages
• Interpret drawings and specifications for field crews
• Manage project punch-list inspection
• Promote continuous and productive communication between project participants, including internal and external clients and partners
• Coordinate project close-out activities
• Fulfill safety responsibilities in various capacities
• Support talent growth within the organization, including coaching and mentoring subordinates when directed
• Perform other tasks as assigned

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in construction science, building science, construction engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred
• Design-build experience over industrial projects (strongly preferred)
• Experience overseeing subcontractors and driving project schedules
• Client interaction experience with strong technical, organizational, managerial, and communication skills
• Progressively responsible job site experience on industrial building projects, with a fundamental understanding of all phases of construction
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents, schedules, and budgets
• Proficiency with AutoCAD is a plus
• Up to 100% travel to projects throughout the USA and possible Canada
• Work schedule: 10 days onsite, 4 days off

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking around project sites with uneven surfaces
• Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsites in all types of weather, which may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching
• Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers
• Must be on call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times

Travel

Our projects are located throughout the United States and Canada, and this is a site-based position with a 10 days on / 4 days off work schedule. Projects typically last from 6 to 12+ months. Meal and lodging per diems are provided along with reasonable travel provisions. Up to 100% overnight travel is required based on project needs.
